MAUZOP did not begin in a software meeting.
Food and hospitality were familiar to founder Yash Chawlla from an early age through his family, but his own working life took a much wider route.
Different roles. Different businesses. Customers. Selling. Operations. Responsibility.
Years spent close to real businesses created a perspective that would later become important to MAUZOP:
Running a business from the outside and carrying one from the inside are two very different experiences.
Eventually, that journey led to a café of his own.
And later, to MAUZOP.
A founder who came from the problem.
In Yash's words:
“I came from the business problem, not from the software industry. I knew food, customers and the pressure of running a business. I did not know how to build software yet — but I knew exactly what I wished had existed when I needed it.”
That distinction has shaped the company from the beginning.
MAUZOP did not start with a technology and search for somewhere to use it.
The problem came first.
The technology followed.
Built by learning what was necessary.
MAUZOP began as a founder-led, resource-conscious build.
There was no attempt to pretend that every answer was known on day one.
Research came first.
Then restaurant economics.
Then the questions the system would need to answer.
Then the product logic.
Then testing.
Then more questions.
“For months, MAUZOP became part of my everyday life — researching, learning, testing, starting again when something failed, and staying with the problem long enough for an idea to become a real product.”
That process still influences the culture we want around MAUZOP.
Expertise matters.
So does having the humility to know what you have not yet proved.
What we believe
We believe restaurant intelligence should explain itself.
We believe uncertainty should be visible rather than hidden behind confident language.
We believe local language matters when the person making the decision thinks, works and manages in that language.
We believe technology should give management better context, not take judgement away from them.
And we believe the best product is not necessarily the one with the longest feature list.
It is the one that helps answer the question that matters.
A name with something personal behind it.
“The name MAUZOP is personal to me. ‘Mau’ comes from someone very close to my heart, so the name has always carried a little piece of home with it. It reminds me why building a business matters in the first place — not only to grow, but to build a better life around it. I like to think it carries a little good fortune too. And that thought has stayed with MAUZOP from the beginning: a business should demand commitment, but it should not take your whole life away.”
The story behind the name is personal.
The company we are trying to build from it is not.
MAUZOP is intended to become a serious intelligence platform for food businesses—from independent operators to multi-outlet organisations and, over time, larger restaurant enterprises.
Founder-led does not mean founder-centred.
The company has to become larger than the story that started it.
Where we want to go
We are starting with restaurant economics because that is the problem we know.
The long-term ambition is to build MAUZOP into a trusted intelligence layer for food businesses: something capable of helping an owner understand a single café and capable, over time, of supporting decisions across much larger restaurant organisations.
India is where we are starting.
The ambition is not limited by geography.
But scale will never be an excuse to abandon the principles the product was built on.
Evidence.
Clarity.
Context.
Human judgement.
